Shandong Jianzhu University Successfully Hosts the 3rd International Conference on Development and Engineering Applications of Advanced High-Performance Building Materials
From May 15 to 17, 2026, the 3rd International Conference on Development and Engineering Applications of Advanced High-Performance Building Materials was grandly held in Jinan. Guided by the Chinese Branch of the International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM) and the Chinese Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the conference was hosted by Shandong Jianzhu University and co-organized by Southeast University, Shandong University and other universities. Centered on the theme of "Low-Carbon-Driven AI Innovates the Future of Building Materials", the conference focused on the core demands of the global green and low-carbon transformation of the construction industry. It attracted over 500 representatives from more than 200 universities, scientific research institutes and enterprises at home and abroad, who gathered to discuss academic frontiers, technical bottlenecks and industrial upgrading paths in the field of advanced building materials, and build a high-end academic community spanning multiple disciplines, fields and countries.
On the afternoon of May 15, two featured academic events were held successively. The "Young Scholars Academic Exchange Session - Face-to-Face with Journal Editors" was presided over by Professor Zhong Jing from Harbin Institute of Technology. It invited six authoritative journal experts, including Professor Zhang Yamei, Associate Editor of Cement and Concrete Composites from Southeast University; Professor Yu Qingliang, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Building Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology; Professor Zhang Zuhua, Associate Editor of Composites Part B: Engineering from Tongji University; Professor Feng Pan, Editorial Board Member of Cement and Concrete Research and Construction and Building Materials from Southeast University; Professor Xie Tianyu, Editor-in-Chief of Case Studies in Construction Materials from Southeast University; and Professor Hou Pengkun, Associate Editor of Advances in Cement Research from University of Jinan. The on-site exchanges were dynamic, practical and in-depth. Through practical Q&A sessions with journal editors, the event precisely helped young scholars solve paper submission problems, clarify research ideas and define academic development directions.
The academic salon "Dialogue with Top Scientists" was presided over by Professor Liu Qiaoling from Shandong Jianzhu University. It invited five renowned experts, including Academician Miao Changwen from Southeast University, Chair Professor Li Zongjin from Macau University of Science and Technology, Professor Cheng Xin from University of Jinan, Professor Zhang Yamei from Southeast University and Professor Zhang Xin from Shandong Jianzhu University. In the form of high-end academic dialogue, they conducted in-depth analysis of the frontier development trends of the industry, inherited and promoted a rigorous and dedicated research spirit, and encouraged researchers, especially young scholars, to align research directions with national strategic needs and uphold the spirit of "persisting unswervingly".
On the morning of May 16, the grand opening ceremony of the conference was held. Attendees included Academician Miao Changwen of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor from Southeast University; Academician Li Shucai of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Shandong University; Academician Xing Feng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Jinan University; Chair Professor Li Zongjin from Macau University of Science and Technology and founder of the conference; Liu Mingwei, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Shandong Province; Shi Zhiyuan, Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Education Department of Shandong Province; Wang Chuanli, Third-Level Researcher of the Science and Technology Cooperation Division of the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province; Yang Jingbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shandong Jianzhu University; Yu Dehu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shandong Jianzhu University; Qiu Liping, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shandong Jianzhu University, and other leading figures and experts. The opening ceremony was presided over by Yu Dehu.
Yang Jingbo delivered a welcome speech, warmly welcoming experts and scholars from home and abroad. He introduced the university’s research achievements and practical experience in fields such as new green bamboo and wood building materials and industrial solid waste resource utilization. He expressed the hope that this conference would serve as an opportunity to deepen industry-university-research integration and cross-border collaboration, and contribute to the transformation, upgrading and green development of the building materials industry. Liu Mingwei pointed out that high-end new building materials are crucial support for consolidating urban and rural construction, implementing the "dual carbon" strategy and promoting the modernization of the construction industry. He encouraged experts and scholars to base themselves on academic frontiers, serve the overall situation, pool wisdom and achievements, and empower the high-quality development of housing and urban-rural development undertakings nationwide and in Shandong Province. Li Shucai stated that the research, development and industrialization of high-end building materials are key measures to serve national strategies and ensure people’s livelihood construction. Shandong University will deepen interdisciplinary integration, resource sharing and strategic cooperation with Shandong Jianzhu University and all sectors of society to jointly promote the green, intelligent and modern development of the construction industry.
The conference featured 14 keynote reports, 120 special reports (including 46 invited reports), 60 graduate student reports and 21 graduate student poster presentations. Academician Miao Changwen, Academician Xing Feng, Professor Jiang Jinyang, Professor Cui Hongzhi, Professor Jin Zuquan, Professor Zhang Yunsheng, Professor Yu Qingliang, Professor Yu Tao, Professor Gu Xianglin, Professor Wang Dongmin, Professor Zhang Xin, Professor Cheng Xin, Professor Hongyan Ma and Chair Professor Li Zongjin delivered keynote reports on topics such as "Research on Cement-Based New Energy Materials", "Situation Analysis of High-Value Recycling of New Energy Solid Waste and Jinan University’s Exploration", "Digital Reconstruction of Concrete Materials and Exploration of Its Intelligent Agents", "Research and Application of Structure-Function Integrated Building Energy-Saving Materials", "Design and Application of Optoelectronic Composite Coatings for Marine Structures", "Research and Application of Low-Carbon Engineering Materials Prepared from Bulk Solid Waste", "Research Progress of Calcium Carbonate Cement", "Composite Material-Seawater Sea Sand Concrete Structures", "Service Life Prediction of Concrete Structures under Combined Effects of Environment and Loads", "Composition, Properties, Reaction Mechanism, Production, Application and Standardization of Aluminosilicate Solid Waste Cementitious Materials", "Research Progress and Engineering Demonstration of High-Performance Inorganic Adhesive Composite Bamboo Materials and Structures", "Preparation of Cement-Based Materials from Bulk Solid Waste", "Transformative Magnesium-based Alternative Cement toward Carbon Negativity" and "Advanced Material Technologies for Sustainable Civil Engineering".
On the afternoon of May 17, the closing ceremony of the conference was presided over by Qiu Liping, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shandong Jianzhu University. A total of 12 outstanding graduate student reports (including 4 first prizes and 8 second prizes) and 10 Best Poster awards for graduate students were selected, with winners from Southeast University, Dalian University of Technology, Tianjin University, Shijiazhuang Tiedao University, Zhejiang University, University of Macau, Shandong University, Tongji University, Wuhan University, Anhui Jianzhu University and North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power. Professor She Wei, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Southeast University, received the conference flag from Professor Yan Kai, Vice Chairman of the 3rd Organizing Committee and Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Shandong Jianzhu University, officially taking over the hosting rights of the next conference. Dean She Wei stated that the civil engineering, transportation and water conservancy industries are in a critical transformation stage, and warmly welcomed all experts and scholars to gather in Nanjing in due course to jointly advance the development of civil engineering materials toward higher-end and more cutting-edge directions.
Closely following the global low-carbon development trend and the deployment of the national "dual carbon" strategy, this conference strived to build a high-level international academic exchange platform and jointly explore new ideas and paths for the green and sustainable development of the building materials industry. The conference strongly promoted the research and development, scenario application and transformation of scientific research achievements of high-end green building materials, further expanded the pattern of external academic exchanges and international influence of Shandong Jianzhu University, and has profound practical value and strategic significance for deeply serving the national green and low-carbon development and accelerating the comprehensive low-carbon transformation and upgrading of the building materials industry.
