 Application Instructions

Application Requirements

1.Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid regular foreign passport. The applicant must be aged between 18 and 45 years old physically and mentally healthy, with good conduct, and meet China’s entry and exit conditions, abide by Chinese laws and regulations, and respect Chinese culture and customs.

2.Overseas applicants who were residents of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan must have held the valid foreign passports or certificates of nationality for at least four years, among which over two years record of the actual foreign residence within the last four years (as of April 30, 2025, nine-month actual residence in foreign countries within one year can be calculated as one year, subject to the entry and exit date).

3.Applicants must possess a high school diploma or above.

4.Applicants under the age of 18 must submit scanned copies of the following documents:

(1)Guardian statement (The guardian must be an adult living in Shandong Province, China);

(2)A notarized paper to prove that the applicant’s parents have entrusted guardianship to the guardian;

(3)The guardian’s ID or passport.

5.Whether an applicant, while holding foreign nationality, also possesses the nationality of the People’s Republic of China shall be determined by the conclusion of the nationality identification conducted by the exit-entry administration department of the Chinese public security authorities. If the applicant is determined to have Chinese nationality during the application process, after admission, or upon enrollment, their application or admission qualification, or their eligibility to study, will be revoked.


Application documents

Applicants are required to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the provided application information and materials. If the application information and materials are verified to be untrue, the applicant’s application, admission, or enrollment qualification will be revoked.

1.Personal information page of the passport (regular personal passport valid beyond March 1, 2027).

2.ID photo with white background.

3.Certificate of the highest education qualifications and its corresponding official academic transcripts, with notarized Chinese or English translations for certificates in languages other than Chinese; graduating students should provide a pre-graduation certificate when applying, and should submit a certificate of academic degree after admission.

-Applicants for undergraduate programs should hold high school diploma or above.

-Applicants for postgraduate programs should hold bachelor’s degree or above.

-Applicants for PhD programs should hold master’s degree or above.

4.Applicants for Master or PhD programs should provide 2 recommendation letters from professors or associate professors which must be signed by the referees.

5.Applicants for Chinese teaching programs should hold a certificate of HSK 4; Applicants for English teaching programs should provide IELTS or TOEFL test results or English proficiency certificates. Those who have obtained a degree in English as the language of instruction should provide relevant certificate issued by the original school; English-speaking applicants are exempt from English proficiency certificates.

6.Non-criminal record. The applicant must submit a valid certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security organization, which should be valid within six months from the application date.

7.Physical examination form for foreigners. Forms will be deemed invalid if they are incomplete, lack attached photos, do not have a cross-page seal on the photo, lack a signature of the attending physician, or are without an official hospital stamp. The validity period of the examination result is 6 months (it must be within the validity period during the time of application).

8.Proof of financial guarantee:

(1) Scanned copies of passport or identification document of the financial guarantor (limited to the applicant or immediate family member)

(2) Proof of financial support, with deposits of no less than 20,000 RMB or an equivalent amount in foreign currency.

9.International students who is now studying in China need to provide a study type residence permit, which is valid for more than one month, and must submit a completion certificate or transfer certificate issued by the current school.


Application Procedure

1.Applicants should apply via the SJU Application System for International Students (https://sdjzu.17gz.org). (Note: All materials required to be uploaded by the system must be provided with clear scanned copies. If not, the admission results might be affected.) After completing the application, please regularly check your application system and registered email for updates on your admission status and related information.

2.After the application deadline, SJU will organize a panel of experts to review the application documents. For overseas applicants who pass the qualification examination, an online interview assessment will be held. In-person interview may be arranged for students who are within China. Please refer to email or WeChat notifications for interview arrangement.

3.Acceptance and enrolment: The admission letter will be sent via email or WeChat, and those who are not accepted will not be notified. The registration date will be notified in the acceptance letter. Accepted students must report to the school and register at the time specified in the letter of acceptance, and all original application documents will be verified upon arrival.


Scholarships

Different scholarships including the Shandong provincial government scholarship, university scholarship and Jinan Sister-City scholarship etc. will be offered to qualified students at different levels.


Study Expenses (excluding tuition fees and international travel expenses)

Insurance

The current medical insurance fee is 800 RMB/person/year. As required by relevant national regulations, failure to purchase the required medical insurance for international students studying in China will result in the inability to complete the registration procedures at the university. Those who do not purchase the required medical insurance cannot complete registration.

 Accommodation

Twin room equipped with bathroom, kitchenette, induction cooker, microwave oven, air conditioner, refrigerator, internet network etc.7,000 yuan per year.


 Visa

Students should bring the Admission Notice to SJU and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW202 form or 201 form) to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate for an X1 visa. After entering China, students should change X1 visa into a Residence Permit for foreign students within 30 days. SJU doesn’t accept students without study visas.

According to Chinese laws, international students with valid visas must register for temporary accommodation within 24 hours after arriving in or returning to China. Otherwise, new visas and visa extensions cannot be processed. The validity period of a residence permit is generally the same as the period which tuition covers and the longest validity period is one year. The final validity period issued by the Chinese Immigration Bureau (Entry and Exit Administration Bureau) shall prevail.
