Study Duration:3-6 years;

Educational Level: Undergraduate;

Granted Degree: Bachelor of Engineering)

Overview:

The major of Surveying and Mapping Engineering deals with spatial positioning information. This major mainly studies the fundamentals and technologies of space, electronics, information, laser, inertia and other sciences, with which it determines the shape of the earth and other stars, the three-dimensional characteristics of buildings (structures) and their relationship with the designated reference system, the earth gravity field and its internal physical characteristics, the characteristics of moving objects and their multidimensional parameters; as well as the basic theories and methods applied in engineering, industry and human life.

The major of Surveying and Mapping Engineering has been approved as the national as well as as Shandong provincial first-class undergraduate construction discipline. It was approved for the construction of high-level application-oriented discipline in Shandong Province in 2017, and passed the professional certification of engineering education by the Ministry of Education in 2021. The major has a teaching team led by academician (specially appointed) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and two provincial platforms, namely, Shandong Collaborative Innovation Center for Smart City and Shandong Engineering and Technology Center for Digital City. The school of the major has a first-level discipline of Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology for master’s degree granting (including three second-level disciplines, i.e., Geodesy and Survey Engineering, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering), as well as professional master's degree programs in resources and environment and in civil and hydraulic engineering.

Cultivation Goal

We aim at cultivating outstanding surveying and mapping engineering technicians, who have broad international vision, strong sense of innovation and entrepreneurship, team spirit, good moral cultivation and engineering practical ability, for earth science research, urban and engineering construction, land and resources survey, environmental protection and disaster prevention and reduction, navigation and guidance and other fields. Our graduates are expected to be able to comprehensively apply the modern surveying and mapping means of air-space-ground and spatial information technology, such as Beidou satellite navigation and positioning, photogrammetry and remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicles, three-dimensional laser scanning, to systematically master the basic theories and technical methods of collecting, processing, analyzing, expressing and applying various geometric, physical, human and temporal information related to the spatial distribution of the earth, as well as to analyze and resolve problems with theories and platforms of GIS, cloud computing, big data and deep learning, etc,.

Core Curricula

Advanced Mathematics, College Physics, College English, College Computer, Introduction to Surveying and Mapping, Fundamentals of Cartography, Principles and Applications of Digital Mapping, Error Theory and Surveying Adjustment, Geodesy, Satellite Navigation and Positioning, Photogrammetry, Engineering Surveying, Principles and Design of Geographic Information Systems, Principles and Applications of Remote Sensing, Real Estate Surveying, etc,.

Student Cultivation:

Since 2008, the major has successively undertaken 11 sessions of Shandong Jianzhu University Measurement Skills Contest, including Tuopu Tiandi Cup, Su Yiguang Cup, Leica Cup, Mingjia Cup, Situoli Cup, etc., which has a far-reaching impact both inside and outside the university. The school actively organizes students to participate in such large-scale competitions as the Challenge Cup, SuperMap Cup, National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project and Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Competition and various scientific research projects at all levels. Our students have won many outstanding achievements. The peer education experience exchange meetings for new and old students, excellent alumni reports, well-known enterprise lectures, and professional teachers' lectures are often hold to help students to understand the background of surveying and mapping industry, the career development prospects, and the employment opportunities.
