I.Overview

The business administration discipline at Shandong Jianzhu University has 63 full-time faculty members among which 43 have senior professional titles and 19 are supervisors of master program students. In 2003, the business administration discipline at Shandong Jianzhu University was authorized as master’s degree-awarding institution of the second-level discipline of technology economics and management; in 2010, the school of business was granted membership of the 9thbatch of MBA training colleges in China; in 2011, the business administration discipline was qualified of granting first-level master’s degrees; in 2013, the China-Australia joint master’s program of enterprise management was authorized by the Ministry of Education of China; in 2016, the assessment of the MBA program indicated that the academic performance wassuperior; in 2020, the Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) program was approved by the Education Department of Shandong Province.The business administration discipline has a wide range of academic concentrations. The academic goal of the discipline targets at building a top-tier business program in Shandong Province and developing a dynamic integration combining the trend of internationalization and the characteristics of Shandong Merchants. The business administration discipline at Shandong Jianzhu University in the near future is expected to establish the leadership in the local business schools, lead the development of management theories, train business professionals, and serve the development of economy.

II.Development Directions and Advantages

By condensing and integrating the discipline directions, the business administration discipline at Shandong Jianzhu University has been further developed into several clearly framed, properly distributed, and specially featured academic concentrations. Three concentrations are listed as follow:

1.Technology Economy and Management. From the perspective of institutional innovation, this academic concentration focuses on exploring the intrinsic patterns and principles, and investment planning and assessment of the construction and real estate industry.

2.Accounting. This academic concentration focuses on accounting and financial performance, corporate governance, financial risk management, and corporate sustainable development.

3.Enterprise Management. This academic concentration focuses on the management of organization, leadership, compensation and salary management, and the overall corporate performance.

Discipline Advantages and Characteristics:

The Department hasa solid and competitive research and teaching team that focuses on the economic impacts of Eco-construction technology and the real estate industry managerial economics. The discipline has one national level bilingual model course, a think idea platform of the “13thFive-Year” plan, one provincial top tier undergraduate programofbusiness administration, and a key program of Famous University Development Project in accounting.The department won First Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Shandong Province and First Prize for Outstanding Social Science Achievements of Shandong Province for three consecutive years. The research and teaching team of the business administration department has made significant contributions to both the academia and the industry.

III.Student Cultivation Objectives

The business administration department at Shandong Jianzhu University commits to cultivating professionals in the fields of managerial economics, law, accounting, and construction and real estate. The department nurtures and empowers the students with high standard of social responsibility and an international vision.

1.Provide students with a diverse learning environment and encourage students’ innovative spirit. To improve students’ creative thinking skills and abilities of practice, the business administration department combines traditional teaching methods with symposium, mock drilling, andenterprise practices to improve students’learningexperience.

2.Bring the Culture of Shandong Merchants into class and improve students’ consciousness of social responsibility. Throughpractice projects such as “The Trend of Business”and“The Charm of Business”,the department aims at developing ethically-guided students andfostering students within and beyond the university motto-“Strive for Virtue and Knowledge to Build Foundation for Career Success”.

IV.Enrollment

Take effective measures to enhance online and offline enrollment & registration. The admission committee in the business administration department has been improving the recruiting methods. In recent years, the business administration discipline at Shandong Jianzhu University has got high academic recognition and the master’s program has attracted more and more outstanding undergraduates and student cadres to come. Manystudents that apply for“985 Project” colleges and “211 Project” colleges such as Shandong University and Central University of Finance and Economicsarewilling to relocate to the master’s program at Shandong Jianzhu University. Resulting from the high academic recognition and student approval, the structure and quality of student body has been highly improved and optimized.

V.Domestic and International Influence

1.Follow cutting edge knowledge and build a scientific platform for the business administration discipline. The academic achievements of the faculty team in the business administration department have been published on several core academic journals of China (e.g., Economic Research Journal, Journal of Financial Research, Management World, etc.). The academic achievements as well have drawn lots of media attention and were cited by severalmainstream websites (e.g., Xinhua News, People’s Daily Online, iFeng, etc.). The research project- “Research of Shandong Province”-was highly praised by the governor of Shandong Province.

2.2. Improve international cooperation. The department has established academic links and cooperation with foreign universities and research institutions in several countries such as Australia, the U.S.A, the U.K., Russia, Malaysia, Korea and other countries. The faculty members and students in the business administration department havemade speeches and presentations in several academic conferences and symposiums, such as Professor Hailan Yang and the graduate program student-Mr. Liang Zhang.

3.3. Provide intelligence service and development proposal to the local government. The business administration department has been serving as “idea bank” for the government of Licheng District to provide suggestions and proposals for the regional economic development of the “14th Five-Year Development Plan”.

VI.Course design and Career Paths.

1.The core teaching teaminthe business administration department has developed a scientific and effective learning system, which considers both academic theory and practice. The business administration major allows the students to tailor the course work to suit their particular interests and professional objectives. Students will complete a set of core business courses in a variety of functional areas, including management, microeconomics, macroeconomics, management information system, statistics, accounting, financial management, marketing, economic law, human resource management, public finance and taxation, finance, real estate development and management, real estate law and regulation, real estate appraisal, construction project management, strategic management and so on. Through the courses, students will gain problem-solving skills in real business practice, discover their strengths and interests, and build a solid foundation for career success.

2.Students majoring in business administration have a variety of opportunities from business plan and ethics competitions to internships, study abroad, and events with localbusiness entrepreneurs. The department also encourages students to pursue professional certificates, such as Certified Public Valuer, Real Estate Appraiser, Certificate Public Accountant, and Cost Engineer. Before graduation, students will have a clear career plan and employment intention. According to the department investigation, our graduates are highly demanded in job market.
