1. Research and Consultancy

Research Areas:The school has undertaken more than 50 state and provincial level projects as well as a number of research projects in cooperation with enterprise and other research institutions.The faculty have put their efforts toward the development of new technologies in energy conservation in buildings. The scientific research focuses on the following 4 fields:

Ground-coupled heat pump technologies.

Our research team is at the leading level internationally in the field of the ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) technology. The research achievements wereprogrammed into the national standard ofGCHPtechnology. The research team has been granted 4 inventive patents, 2 registered programs, and has written one monograph of “GCHP technology” in Chinese and participated in the writing of <The Handbook of Renewable Energy>. In recent years, the team has received 1 National Science and Technological Progress Award and 9 ministerial and provincial-level Technical Development Awards. They have published over 80 journal papers and more than 50 technical reports.

High-efficiency utilization technology of natural gas.

The research team has undertaken 3 National Projects of the Scientific and Technical Supporting Programs, as well as one research project funded by NSFC. Their achievements can provide a useful guideline for high efficiency utilization of natural gas, energy structure adjustment and natural gas infrastructure layout.

Heat and mass transfer andits applications.

The research team focuses on the theory of heat and mass transfer of the porous media and its applications in building enclosures. Prof Yu studies the measurement methods for the thermal properties of deep ground soil. Five research projects supported by NSFC have been carried out.

Building energy conversation and management.

The research team has undertaken 5 state and provincial level projects on the study of building energy simulation and the development of energy conservation technologies.

2. International Exchange and Cooperation

The School of Thermal Engineering persists in the international cooperation, and strives to cultivate the excellent talents with international perspective. Currently we have joint research and projects with Hong Kong Polytechnic University, UiT The Arctic University of Norwayand Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (Germany). The joint projects includeRenewable Energy Application,Ground Source Heat Pump System Application, Key Technology of Nano Fluid and etc. And we have exchange programs for both faculty members and studentsevery year.
