The School of Arts originated from the direction of Interior Design set up in 1984. Adhering to the tenet of "excellent profession and morals, combining theory and practice, vigorous innovation, and design for future", the School of Arts has eight directions in five undergraduate majors, namely, Art Design, Industrial Design, Fine Arts, Advertisement, Landscape Architecture, It also offers academic master's degrees for three level-1 specialties, namely, Design, Fine Arts, and Landscape Architecture, as well as three professional master's degrees, namely, MFA (Master for Fine Arts), MLA (Master for Landscape Architecture), and ME (Master for Engineering).
The School of Arts owns a work team with high academic level, well structured in age, and with distinctive characteristics. Now it has 103 faculty and staff, including nine professors, 28 associate professors, one doctoral supervisor, 27 master supervisors, two State Council Experts for Special Allowance, one Chinese Successful Senior Interior Architect, one Chinese Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Interior Architect, one Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions in Shandong Province, one Excellent Talent in Shandong Province, one of Top Ten Model Teachers in ShandongUniversities and one Shandong Province Famous Teacher.
The School of Arts always persists in development with great significance. For example, Art Designis a national characteristic major, Comprehensive Art Design is a national excellent course, Design is a Shandong provincial key specialty, the Shandong Building Culture Research Centeris the humanities and social science research base in Shandong province and the Art Design Laboratory Teaching Center is the experiment and teaching demonstration center in Shandong province.
The School of Arts won numerous awards in recent years, including 85 national and provincial awards and 195 department and bureau awards. In addition, it has published 158 books (textbooks) and 414 academic papers. Furthermore, it has undertaken two programs sponsored by National Social Science Foundation and another 127 programs such as humanities and social science programs of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture of China, social science programs in Shandong province, and science & technology development programs in Shandong province. The School of Arts always upholds the characteristics development philosophy and attaches great importance to student cultivation. With instructions from teachers, the students succeeded in winning 305 national awards and 287 provincial awards and they also published more than 90 papers. The school has made great contributions for the social development by providing more than 2000 highly competent and compound talents.
